National Awards
BlueWorks
BlueWorks is a unique collaboration between the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association and the Harvard Medical School’s Department of Health Care Policy. It provides a quarterly review of Blue Cross and Blue Shield company innovations that address clinical and administrative simplification, giving physicians more time to focus on patient care.
In 2005, we won for My Insurance Manager, which provides access to information such as member eligibility, real-time claims filing and status, along with unique access to customer service through STATchat SM† .
E-Fusion
This awards program recognizes innovative, business-focused uses of technology in actual use by insurers. In 2005, A.M. Best recognized STATchatSM, a VoIP application in My Insurance ManagerSM† , as a finalist in the category of Customer Management. In 2004, we earned recognition as a finalist in the E-Fusion Awards in the Claims Management category.
World Wide Web Health Awards
SouthCarolinaBlues.com won a bronze award in the Fall/Winter 2005 World Wide Web Health Awards program for its online precertifications. This feature allows hospitals and physicians a quicker, simpler way to get authorizations. Previously, providers had to submit precertifications via phone or fax.
SouthCarolinaBlues.com also won a silver award in the Spring/Summer 2005 World Wide Web Health Awards program for STATchatSM (VoIP) technology in My Insurance ManagerSM† . Using a rating scale of 1 to 100, judges evaluated entries for content, creativity and overall assessment. BlueCross was judged in the insurance Web site category. The Health Information Resource Center sponsors the awards competition.
2002 eHealthcare Leadership Award
BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina won a Silver Award in the category of Best Internet Web Site as part of its 2002 eHealthcare Leadership Awards. The program recognizes the best Web sites of healthcare organizations. The award was presented in November at the 2002 Internet and Technology Conference sponsored by Chicago-based Forum for Healthcare Strategists in Phoenix.
E-comm Innovator of the Year Award
Network World magazine gave BlueCross an Honorable Mention award in its E-comm Innovator of the Year competition. One Innovator of the Year and 10 honorable mentions were awarded. Referencing My Insurance Manager on SouthCarolinaBlues.com, Network World called it a "worthy project" and a "prescription for convenience." Network World's annual award competition honors companies with "extraordinary" business-to-business e-commerce initiatives. The award was announced in the Feb. 26, 2001 issue.
A Best of Blue Award
The Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association presented BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina with a Best of Blue award for Electronic Media and Interactive Programs in its annual Best of Blue competition open to all of the Blues plans. Company representatives accepted the award at a national meeting of the association May 1, 2000 in Dallas.
Most Wired Innovator 2000 Award
Hospitals & Health Networks (H&HN) magazine honored BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina with its Most Wired Innovator 2000 Award at the Health Forum Summit conference April 30, 2000 in Orlando, Fla. The award recognizes excellence in applications of online information technology in healthcare. H&HN is a publication of Health Forum, an American Hospital Association (AHA) subsidiary. A panel of judges representing hospitals, health systems, health plans and Internet leaders judged the competition. Only two awards were given, one in the category of health plans and insurers and one in the category of hospitals.
2000 Web Business 50/50 Award
CIO magazine named BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina a 2000 Web Business 50/50 Award winner. This award program recognizes innovative Web initiatives by organizations around the world. The July 1, 2000 issue of CIO honored the top 50 Internet and top 50 intranet sites that demonstrate a keen ability to blend technology and design of their Web site with the needs of their target audience. A panel of judges reviewed more than 500 Internet sites to arrive at the 50 best.
2000 World Wide Web Health Award
The Consumer Health Publishers Association selected SouthCarolinaBlues.com for a merit award in its Spring 2000 World Wide Web Health Awards Program. Using a rating scale of 1 to 100, judges evaluated entries for content, creativity and overall assessment. Blue Cross was judged in the insurance Web site category.
2000 CIO-100 Award
CIO magazine named BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina a 2000 CIO-100 Award winner. This program recognizes 100 organizations around the world as exemplifying the highest level of operational and strategic excellence. This year's program focused on excellence, innovation and improved business performance through the use of customer-oriented practices. Winners were announced in the August 2000 CIO magazine. Blue Cross' award was based on its Web site, SouthCarolinaBlues.com.
2000 eHealthcare Leadership Award
eHealthcare Strategy & Trends magazine presented BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina a Distinction Award in the category of Best e-Business Web Site among HMOs/PPOs as part of its 2000 eHealthcare Leadership Awards. The program recognizes the best Web sites of healthcare organizations, online health companies, and pharmaceutical and medical equipment firms. The awards highlight the Internet's role in achieving an organization's business objectives and recognize the hard work that has gone into creating outstanding health Web sites. The award was presented in November at the 2000 Internet and Healthcare Conference sponsored by the Alliance for Healthcare Strategy and Marketing.
Regional Awards
IABC Silver Quill Merit Award
The International Association of Business Communicators' (IABC) District 2 recognized SouthCarolinaBlues.com for a Merit Award for Electronic or Interactive Communication in its 2000 Silver Quill Awards competition. Entries came from professional communicators in a variety of organizations in 10 states and were judged on editing, writing, design, communication goals and results, and creative process of project execution. Judges' critiques of SouthCarolinaBlues.com included the comments "Quick, easy, navigable, thorough content" and "Nice job!"

2002 Palmetto Pillar Award
The Columbia (S.C.) Chamber of Commerce Information Technology Council's (ITC) Palmetto Pillar Awards program recognized BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina's www.SouthCarolinaBlues.com, featuring My Insurance ManagerSM† , as best in the Technology Development category.
2002 InnoVision Technology Award
The 2002 InnoVision Technology Awards program named BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina a first place winner in the technology application category. The company was selected for its e-claims service offered to physicians and dentists. BlueCross' entry was chosen from among entries exemplifying innovative application, development and support of technological advancements in the Upstate, according to the competition judges.
2001 InnoVision Technology Award
The 2001 InnoVision Technology Awards program, an Upstate South Carolina awards program recognizing leadership in innovation and technological excellence, named BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina a finalist in the technology application category in its 2001 competition.
