South Carolina BlueCross Wins National Leadership Award for Customer Service on its Web Site

Columbia, S.C. -- The Chicago-based Forum for Healthcare Strategists presented BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina with an eHealthcare Leadership Award at a healthcare Internet and technology conference in Phoenix this week.

BlueCross won the Silver Award in the category of Best Overall Internet Site for its Web site, SouthCarolinaBlues.com.

The site offers a secure section called My Insurance Manager where members and providers can view real time information such as claims status, deductible and out-of-pocket amounts, inpatient and outpatient authorization, eligibility, and other health insurance such as coverage through a spouse. Members also can request a new ID card, choose a physician and access benefits booklets. Providers can submit claims and referrals online. Agents and employer groups also use the site.

"BlueCross is honored to have received the eHealthcare Award for the customer service we've made available on SouthCarolinaBlues.com. We believe the real beneficiaries are the 150,000 members and 16,000 medical providers who are using the site, and we encourage all our customers to try it out," said Thomas G. Faulds, president and chief operating officer of the company's BlueCross division.

BlueCross' Web site has won seven other national awards and two South Carolina distinctions in the past two years.

The eHealthcare Leadership competition received more than 1,000 entries in eight categories. Winners of platinum, gold, silver, and distinction awards represented 16 industry classifications, from hospitals and health systems to pharmaceutical firms and online health companies.

"The response was tremendous," says Mark Gothberg, eHealthcare Leadership Awards chairman, in noting the huge number of entries and winners. "Without question, healthcare organizations increasingly view the Web as an important medium for achieving their business objectives. Entries this year reflected greater sophistication overall and more e-business in particular."
